The Perfect Carry on Bag

July 29, 2014 by Linda Caminiti Leave a Comment

I have searched high and low for the perfect carry on.  I have this great squishy Fendi duffel bag that I bought back in the ’80’s in the Bahamas.  Served me very well for 30 something years.  Now if I tried to buy the thing, it’d probably set me back more than a few grand.  So in my search for the perfect carry on, I’ve bought, oh, I don’t know, 10-15 bags.  But I finally found one… at Costco.   Now I didn’t end up buying it at Costco but I got the idea there.  You can decide what value you put on something.  The bag at Costco was called a “cabin” bag and was made by a company named Ciao.  Good name for a travel accessory company.  I believe it was $59.99.  I liked the look of it and the idea of it but not the quality.  If you’re only going to bephoto (95)photo (96)photo (65) taking a few trips a year, the Ciao bag might be for you.  The beauty of this carry on is that it fits under the seat in front of you.  Plus it has plenty of room for electronics, cosmetic/shaving kit and a change of clothes.  Skeptical?  So was I until I watched a video on the Briggs and Riley cabin bag.  It showed where to store your electronics as well as the other stuff mentioned above.  I don’t know why more companies don’t do videos like that.  It sure sold me.  I did get the Briggs and Riley (See ad beside the post) from Amazon.  Prime member so no shipping and in this case, no tax.  Although I have been seeing more taxes show up with my Amazon purchases.  I used the bag on a long haul from Atlanta to Barcelona and then Madrid back to Atlanta.  I got both of our Kindles in there as well as two phones as well as a multitude of chargers AND the converter etc.  In the main compartment I had my makeup kit and my med kit.  Plus I had three magazines, newspaper, my iPod, and two folding fedoras. The latch on the back  secures the bag to another rolling bag.   And it is a roller bag.  That’s the only thing we took on board.  Love it.  Going on another long haul trip in a few weeks and it will be right there with me.  If you are going on an African safari, this bag won’t work for you because all of your bags need to be soft sided.  Yes, the price of the Briggs and Riley is considerably more than the Ciao.  But, it should last me a lot longer.  Here are some pics of my bag.  Check out the video on the web.
